Legendary hitmaker Berry Gordy’s Motown blueprint for success was based on his time working in an automobile factory in Detroit. Inspired by the assembly line process of building a car step by step, Gordy created a place where a talented kid could walk in one door, unknown, go through a process, and come out another door, a star. Following this proven strategy, Gordy developed the famous ‘Hitsville’ model that took the world by storm. Find, Sign and Develop Talent

Gordy’s focus was always to find, sign and then develop the best talent. In your business, you also want to find the best talent for your team. You need people who really connect with your vision, brand and who and what you are. Then, you need to intentionally unlock and develop their potential. By the way, you also need to take this approach with your clients, your customers and yourself.

Quality Control

Today’s environment is so hectic and fast-paced that quality is often compromised, only to be replaced with sloppiness. In everything you do, both personally and professionally, ask yourself: Can you put your name to it? Are you going above and beyond for your clients? Are you consistently exceeding customers’ expectations? Are you keeping your skills sharp so that you can serve at the highest levels? Are you dedicated to personal growth and development so that you can be the best version of yourself? If you lead by example, others will follow.

Competition Breeds Champions

Competition often gets bad press, but it actually makes things better. As a consumer, for example, competition means you get a better deal and a superior product. Without competition, you would have far less choice. When it comes to your team, you should encourage competition, as Gordy did, but you must also make sure to nurture respect.
