In “Think and Grow Rich” Napoleon Hill outlines classic principles of success that have changed the lives of millions of people around the world. These principles are the keys to the good life, but unfortunately many people break them, often unintentionally, and so never reap the rewards they desire.

Think!

To be successful, you have to really think. Don’t be self-critical, but take the time to ask yourself what you constantly have in mind. Where are your thoughts and your energy directed? Right now, it seems like everyone is talking, but very few people are thinking!

A failure to think means that you can lack focus. In today’s fast-paced and hectic world, it’s very easy to get distracted by technology and the demands of everyday living. This means that you can end up sleepwalking through life with no real sense of purpose. All success begins with a clear picture in your mind of precisely what it is you want – a definite major purpose. Knowing what that is requires real thought. If you don’t take the time to figure this out, you risk drifting along, constantly making short-term decisions, feeling overwhelmed and never living the life you want.

Take Possession of and Direct Your Own Mind

Napoleon Hill said, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve, regardless of how many times you may have failed in the past, or how lofty your aims and hopes may be.” If you take possession of your own mind and direct it to your own ends, you’ll achieve whatever you want. What your mind feeds on, it attracts, so be careful what you watch, read and listen to. Napoleon says that taking control this way means you’ll enjoy sound health, peace of mind, a labor of love of your own choice, freedom from fear and worry, a positive mental attitude and material riches. Now, this doesn’t mean that everything in your life will be easy! There’s no labor of love that doesn’t have pain attached to it and we all have our own doubts and anxieties, for example, but that is all part of the process.

Commit to character-based principles, think and take control of your own mind and you’ll have a blessed life of purpose, significance and abundance.
