After a very tough 18 months, the time has come to look to the future with hope and anticipation. A great way to do this is to revisit and update your bucket list. A bucket list is all about where you want to go, what you want to do and what you want to achieve. Writing one is a powerful way to get your head out of challenging circumstances and back to focusing on the future. Here are three ways a bucket list can transform your life and give you a sense of joyful enthusiasm again:

  • Something To Hope For

After the challenges of the global pandemic, it’s vital to have something to hope for again. COVID-19 may have disrupted plans, activities and events, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t make the most of the situation. Look for the silver linings where possible. If you can adjust your mindset, be flexible and embrace what you do have, there are plenty of good things in life to savor. Everything might not be exactly as you planned, but you can still enjoy wonderful new experiences all the same.

  • Something To Look Forward To

As author C.S. Lewis said, “There are far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” Whatever it is that you’re looking forward to – a holiday, learning another language, finishing your degree – make it part and parcel of your daily routine to aspire to it. A great way to do this is to stimulate yourself visually with pictures and photographs. Having visual reminders somewhere you can see them constantly throughout your day is a really effective way to remind yourself of the joy and sense of accomplishment that lies ahead. It’s also an extremely powerful way to focus your mind on your objectives. Why not have a picture of your ultimate goal as your screen saver!

  • Memories To Make

In tough times, good memories restore and revitalize you. They linger in your mind for years, helping to sustain and fortify you during difficult seasons, so get busy making them at every opportunity! Sometimes the best memories can be as simple as time spent with friends but, whatever you do, make as many as you can. As author Brian Tracy says, “The greatest joys of life are happy memories. Your job is to create as many of them as possible.”

A bucket list can give you hope, show you purpose and introduce joy back into your day. Where do you want to go? What do you want to do? What do you want to achieve? Dream big, turn your dreams into goals and then get out a pen and a notepad and create a bucket list of what the good life looks like for you. The future is out there waiting!
